Governors reward corp members, pledge support for NYSC

State governments have restated their pledge to
support and uplift the National Youth Service
Corps scheme. Governor Kayode Fayemi
(Ekiti); Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); Seriake Dickson
(Bayelsa); and Enugu State acting Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, stated this at
the passing-out of 2012 Batch-A corps members on Thursday.Fayemi commended corps members for their roles in the conduct of elections in the country.

Fayemi, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ganiyu Owolabi, said the involvelment of corps members in electoral process had contributed to the credibility of the nation’s electoral process.

Uduaghan rewarded 11 oustanding corps members with various cash awards ranging from N500,000 to N1m each. He said the cash was to encourage them to channel their efforts towards self-employment.

He said, “What we are doing is to assist corp members to establish businesses especially viable businesses that have good feasibility
studies.

“It is also to promote economic boom in the state because we will encourage the corp members to encourage our people. They should
not go to their states to bring their own people because we will resist such a move. The condition is that they will employ our own people.”

Ahmed, represented by the Head of Service, Dabarako Mohammed, urged them to be agents of positive change. The governor said, “As agents of social change, you must be ready to
continue the good work you have started with the NYSC scheme.”

Dickson, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Edmund Allison-Oguru, commended the corps members for their
sense of duty and commitment to the development of the state, especially in education.

Onyebuchi, who rewarded 26 corps members for their hard work, also condoled with the families of those that lost their lives in service.
