The PPRO stated that following a tip-off, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) team, led by its commander swung into action and traced the kidnappers to Emezabi in Ngbo Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

“On arrival, members of the community were contacted and they assisted the operatives with useful information about the whereabouts of the victim. On sighting the operatives, who had closed in on them, the kidnappers engaged them in a shoot- out, during which one of the suspects known as Onyeka was shot dead while others fled.”

Igbo stated further that the victim was rescued unhurt, adding that no ransom was paid to the kidnappers as they were yet to establish contact with the family of the victim before she was rescued.

He said the body of the suspected gang member had been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for autopsy, adding that efforts were being made toward tracking down other members of the gang.

He appealed to members of the public to always give police useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals and assured them of the continued determination of the command to reduce crime to the minimum in the state.
